An eventful day for the Japanese outfielder, who hit a triple and a multi-hit game.
Chicago Cubs Japanese outfielder Seiya Suzuki had an eventful day.
Suzuki had a multi-hit game against the 2023 Major League Baseball New York Mets at Wrigley Field in Chicago, Illinois, USA, on April 26.
It wasn’t a day to smile, though, as the team went 1-10. At the plate, however, he went 2-for-3 with a double and a walk. It was his first multi-hit game in five games since April 20 against the Philadelphia Phillies.
Suzuki, who started in right field and batted fourth, reached on an infield single in the first inning. One out later, Dansby Swanson hit a solo home run and Ian Happ followed with an infield single to right field with the bases loaded.
The good feeling of the first at-bat didn’t last long. In the top of the third inning, with the score tied 1-1, Kyle Hendricks made an error on a throw to third base. Suzuki’s error turned the opponent’s single into a double. Hendricks followed with a single and the Cubs were down 1-4.
Suzuki didn’t score, but in the bottom of the third, he drew a walk with runners on first and second. Despite the error on defense, he reached base in two at-bats.
In the top of the fourth, the offense made up for its three errors. Two batters later, Hendricks gave up a double to Brandon Nemo.
On the sixth pitch of the at-bat, Nemo hit a line drive to right-center field that would have been a double if left untouched, which would have put more runs on the board. But Suzuki, the right fielder, was quick to make the catch 메이저놀이터.
“Suzuki went 3-for-3 with two hits and a walk, but the team lost the game,” said Baseball King, a Japanese media outlet. In the fourth inning, he caught a ball that looked like it was going to go right down the middle of the infield, much to the delight of the local fans.”
Suzuki later popped out to shortstop in the sixth inning and completed his multi-hit performance with an infield single in the eighth.
