‘Bucheon’s signature striker’ Ahn Jae-jun makes final cut for Hangzhou AG, first honor in club history
Bucheon FC 1995 striker Ahn Jae-jun (22) will be in the hunt for gold.
The Korea Football Association announced the final roster for the 2022 Hangzhou Asian Games at 2 p.m. on Thursday. For Bucheon, Ahn Jae-jun made the cut. He is the first player in the club’s history to be named to the final roster of the Asian Games soccer team 안전놀이터.
Ahn joined Bucheon after being called up by head coach Lee Young-min ahead of the 2021 season, and has 10 goals and five assists in 57 games in the K League 2. Notably, he recorded the most offensive points this year (14 appearances, six goals and three assists) and has developed into the centerpiece of Bucheon’s attack despite his young age.
Since 2021, Ahn has proven his quality by being consistently selected for the men’s national teams at the Paris Olympics and the AFC U-23 Asian Cup. For the upcoming tournament, Ahn is expected to play a role between the front line and the flanks with his physicality, pace, and trickery.
On his selection, Ahn said, “I’m honored to be selected for the national team. I’m eager to represent my country and will do my best. I will give everything I have to offer to help Korea win the championship.”
