“How young are you?” Kim Sun-hyung responds to Choi Joon-yong’s ‘provocation of the elderly’
“How long will you be young, will you be young next year?”
Professional basketball team SK’s Kim Sun-hyung (35) delivered a witty retort to KCC’s Choi Joon-yong (29), who taunted SK by calling them “old men.
Kim held a joint press conference with Choi at the KBL Center in Gangnam-gu, Seoul today (Aug. 8).
During the event, Kim was asked about the “old people” comment that his former teammate Choi Joon-yong, who played with the team until last season, made at his KCC signing press conference last month.
Referring to his hometown team SK, where he played for seven years, Choi Jun-yong said, “SK is no longer a championship contender. SK is the ‘seniors’. It’s better than KCC after they won the championship.” He made a provocative statement that was full of ambition.
Choi Jun-yong’s “old men” was a reference to the fact that SK’s roster was centered around veterans Kim Sun-hyung, Oh Se-geun, and Heo Il-young (38), and it attracted a lot of attention from basketball fans at the time.
After reading the article, Kim Sun-hyung responded to Choi’s provocation with a witty comment.
“Since you keep talking about your age, I’m reminded of a famous line (from the drama “The Glory”),” Kim said, “How long will you be young, will you be young next year?” He responded.
“We have both the MVP of last season’s championship game and the MVP of the season in the Seniors,” he said, emphasizing that skill is more important than age in the professional stage.
Next season’s matchup between Kim Sun-hyung’s SK and Choi Joon-yong’s KCC has already been dubbed the “Seniors Series” and the “Choi Joon-yong Derby,” and is garnering a lot of attention.
“I don’t like being called a senior citizen,” Kim said, “but that’s the beauty of professional sports, to take provocations (like senior citizens) as fun.”
SK was once called “mannequins” by LG’s Lee Kwan-hee ahead of last season’s quarterfinal playoffs, claiming that SK’s defense was as weak as mannequins, but the team responded with three straight wins 안전놀이터.
