‘Junghwan Choi’s final free throws’ deny Sangmyung University the win over KU
Sangmyung University stops KU’s winning streak.
Sangmyung University defeated Korea University 68-67 in the 2023 KUSF University Basketball U-League on Thursday at Sangmyung University’s Cheonan campus. This is the second time Sangmyung has beaten KU since the league’s inception.
The loss snapped KU’s winning streak and left them without a win in the regular season.
For Sangmyung, Choi Jun-hwan, who made the game-winning free throws, recorded a double-double with 12 points and 11 rebounds, while Kwon Soon-woo added a team-high 20 points, seven rebounds and five assists. Wee Jung-woo added 16 points and three rebounds.
KU got 20 points and six rebounds from Lee Dong-geun, 13 points and five rebounds from Park Jung-hwan, and 11 points and four rebounds from Kim Min-kyu, but it wasn’t enough to prevent the loss.
Sangmyung University jumped out to a 17-14 lead in the first quarter thanks to the offense of the trio of Woo Jung-woo, Kwon Sun-woo, and Choi Jung-hyun. The team tied the game again in the second quarter, but immediately took a 59-56 lead in the third quarter with a basket by Kwon Soon-woo.
